Dundee & Angus College Partners with Angus Carers Centre to Support Carers with Digital Technology Skills

In an innovative collaboration, Dundee and Angus College partnered with Angus Carers Centre, to deliver a series of IT sessions to support and equip carers with the essential Digital Technology skills.

Mel Stuart of Essential Skills at Dundee & Angus College said, “We were asked to carry out the training on behalf of Angus Carers Centre as a lot of carers are having to use technology more and more, so it was great to be able to provide support on how to use different apps, resources and provide information.”

The sessions took place at Angus Carers Centre in Arbroath between August 2022 and April 2023 and provided a platform for carers, both experienced and inexperienced to understand the fundamentals in social media, cyber security, Microsoft packages and much more.

Although the sessions were open for drop-ins, an encouraging number of carers became regular attendees, creating a supportive community within the walls of the Angus Carers Centre.

Karen, a participant in the training said, “I found the IT training sessions by Dundee & Angus College to be very useful. The training was aimed at both inexperienced and experienced computer users. I previously used computers on a need-to-know basis and this course helped me to understand these programmes and use them more efficiently.”

This first-time partnership helped to inspire carers with digital technology skills enhancing connectivity, better communication, and benefiting both local carers and those they support.
