SVQ Level 2 in Landscaping (Horticulture)
Course Content
This course is aimed at applicants who wish to develop skills in hard and soft landscaping, including plant propagation, garden design, weed and pest control, health and safety and hard landscape construction.
The course is largely practical, with some academic study required to build a basic understanding of techniques and the theory behind the subject. Essential Skills units are included to aid in employability.
Students may be able to complete PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates and Emergency First Aid. Please note that students will incur additional costs for these certificates.
Entry Requirements
Successful completion of Introduction to Agriculture and Estates (including tutor references), however, applicants with other relevant experience and a genuine interest in the industry will be considered. Reading, writing and numeracy skills are essential along with qualifications that show an ability to work at SCQF level 5/National 5.
Method of Assessment
Course assessment is by completion of an online portfolio that will include observation of practical tasks, written assignments and garden design projects. Assessment is ongoing throughout the year.
Future Prospects
Progression to employment, Modern Apprenticeships or to HNC Horticulture through UHI Argyll College (studied remotely at D&A College).
