Social Services and Healthcare

MA Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 7
Entry requirements
Applicants must be in employment in a social or health care setting for a minimum of 16 hours per week (paid or voluntary) with a minimum of 6 months' experience. Applicants must have a sound understanding of the National Care Standards, Scottish Social Services Codes of Practice, legislation, policies and procedures applicable to the work setting.

Selection will be by application process.

Individuals who wish to register as supervisors with SSSC must also gain an additional supervisory or management qualification at SCQF Level 7 or above.

Course content
This is a work-based qualification and all evidence produced must be in relation to the individual's job role and responsibility.

The award is made up of 8 units, 4 of which are mandatory:
  • Promote effective communication
  • Promote health, safety and security in the work setting
  • Develop your practice through reflection and learning
  • Promote the safeguarding of individuals
4 further units must be chosen from a number of optional units.

Qualifications achieved
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following qualification:
Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 7 GH60 23
Core skills
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following core skills:
  • Information and Communication Technology SCQF Level 5
  • Numeracy SCQF Level 5
Duration
The programmes should take 12 months to complete. Candidates will be
work based and are reviewed by an assessor every 10-13 weeks throughout the duration of the programme.  
Future prospects
This qualification is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council for registration requirements.
