Modern Apprenticeship – Health and Social Care
“This is a great way of getting trained competent staff” says Pam Winter, Unit Manager at Tigh-Na-Muirn Care Home in Broughty Ferry.
Pam is committed to providing the best possible care standards and two years ago employed 22-year-old Cavin Brown from Dundee as a carer.
“Cavin immediately showed great initiative and promise, and we didn’t want to lose his valuable contribution to the care home by sending him off for training two days a week. Having him apply for a Modern Apprenticeship was one of the best solutions we could have come up with.”
Cavin now works full-time at the care home, but, with the help of the staff and a visiting assessor, he is rapidly progressing towards SVQ level 3 of his Modern Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care.
“I feel that I am learning all the time. This is such a great place to work and the support is second to none. Nothing beats actually doing the job and putting all that you’ve learned into practice.
The MA has been a wonderful opportunity for me and learning on the job has not only been beneficial academically but financially too. I’d recommend anyone should try it.”
