Entry requirements

The centre will consider all candidates with prior hairdressing experience
for this course. Candidates must also be employed in a salon for a minimum of 3 months and achieve a work-based assessment.

Course content

Four mandatory and 12 optional units are undertaken throughout this programme which is aimed at candidates who wish to achieve a qualification in hairdressing at management/senior stylist level.

The course is delivered over four days – two days in college and two days in work placement. Successful candidates will master the advanced techniques required to progress to specialised technician or tutor lecturer career paths.

Qualifications achieved

Each apprentice is required to achieve the following Qualification:

•  SVQ 3 in Hairdressing and Barbering at SCQF Level 6

Core skills
Each apprentice is required to achieve the following core skills:
  • Communication SCQF Level 4
  • Working With Others SCQF Level 4
  • Problem Solving SCQF Level 4
  • Information and Communication Technology SCQF Level 4
  • Numeracy SCQF Level 4

The programme should take on average 18 months to complete.
Candidates will be work based and are reviewed by an assessor every
10-13 weeks throughout the duration of the programme.

Future prospects
HNC hairdressing, C&G Level 4 units, HNC fashion make-up,
HND make-up artistry and Employment as senior stylist/technician.
