D&A College students (from left) - Keith Christie, Dundee, Cherrease-Ann Telfer, Forfar and Allanah Ogilvie, Dundee, investigate the initiation board that is part of Morrison’s sprinkler fire safety system.

A total of 30 students, representing both HND architectural technology and HND building surveying, were visiting the retail premises thanks to Hall Fire Protection Systems who were demonstrating the building’s sprinkler system.

The visit, and a talk by representatives of the company to students, were under the auspices of  Dundee City Council’s community benefit programme which is designed to ensure that all council contracts bring just a little bit extra – in this instance an educational visit undertaken with fire and safety industry leaders.

“Hall Fire have a contract with Dundee City Council and therefore take part in the community benefit programme,” explained Kevin Mill, lecturer.

“This is the second year the company have visited D&A and arranged a site visit with one of their clients.

“Getting out this sort of on-site experience really adds to the students’ learning experience.”
