Shared Apprentice Programme makes the COSLA Excellence Awards Shortlist

Release Date: 28 August 2018

D&A College is proud to announce that the Shared Apprentice Programme, a partnership initiative with Angus Council, Dundee & Angus College, Robertson Construction Ltd, Pert Bruce Construction Ltd, Andrew Shepherd Construction Ltd, CITB and Dundee City Council, has been shortlisted for the COSLA Excellence Awards under the Strong & Sustainable Communities category.

The programme, which started in Angus and expanded to Dundee last year, is the first of its kind in Scotland.   Currently in its third year of operation and employing over 30 apprentices while they are training, it enables small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to deliver apprenticeship opportunities that they have would otherwise have been unable to provide.

The Shared Apprentice Programme is a collaborative approach delivered through Shared Apprentice Ltd.  It helps by providing added value apprenticeships within the construction sector in a geographical area that is subject to low wage rates, high youth unemployment and an industry skills shortage.

The COSLA Excellence Awards look to find and champion the most innovative and passionate developments within public sector organisations with the aim of helping to roll them out across the country and beyond. D&A College and our partners are proud to be recognised for creating an initiative that champions apprenticeship opportunities to our young people and develops our young workforce. The Award Ceremony will take place on Thursday, 11 October 2018 at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews
