Sarah Lamarra, HNC Beauty graduate.

That’s the advice from 34-year-old Sarah Lamarra who has had more than her fair share of knocks to deal with.

Sadly, Sarah’s husband passed away seven years ago. He had worked with the Royal Air Force which meant travelling around the UK so Sarah now had to settle and find new roots with her sons, Declan and Lewis.

“I decided I wasn't getting any younger and life was too short to not do what I wanted to do. I have always been interested in beauty and fashion so I thought I would take the plunge.”

Sarah studied for an HNC in Beauty at Dundee and Angus College but while there suffered another devastating blow when her house went on fire, leaving the family with nothing.

“I got great support from my fellow students and college lecturers and continued with my studies while also teaching beauty at an independent beauty academy.”

This led to Sarah starting her own business “Envy Her Beauty by Sarah” which is based at Dundee’s tattoo and piercing salon Ink Dolls.

Earlier this month Sarah was awarded Trainer of the Year for Lash Courses at The Beauty Academy Awards in Glasgow and she now hopes to launch her own brand of lashes.

Sarah wants to continue to learn about the beauty industry and would eventually love to have her own salon.

“My boys inspire me to give them the best in life and I am so lucky to have a support network of friends and family and a good partner who always believes in me. In life there are more smiles . . .”
