Construction team builds on success

Release Date: 2 June 2016

Nearly 50 children representing eight primary schools congregated in Arbroath for D&A College Construction Activities Day.

This is the third year the event has taken place at the Arbroath Campus – and organisers were delighted to welcome so many young people keen to take part in a day of team building and practical activities.

A total of 48 P6 and P7 pupils enjoyed the chance to try their hand at mono-blocking, bricklaying, wallpapering, roof tiling and joinery in the college workshops.

“We are delighted to see the event attracting new sponsors this year, W B S Keillor and Pert-Bruce Construction as well as the continued support from Angus Construction Training Group” said Colin Johnson, course leader, construction.

“This means that each of the pupils taking part will have their very own hi-viz jacket – made especially for primary school pupils.

“We also had a mini-digger on site to allow participants a photo opportunity.”

College learner engagement staff led pupils from Muirfield, Inverkeillor, Timmergreens, Wardykes, Friockheim, Hayshead, Inverbrothock, Ladyloan through a team-building exercise before they took part in the practical activities.

For the hands-on construction work, participants formed groups of six and were overseen by college lecturing staff.

On completion their work was judged by lecturers and a trophy and medals, sponsored by the Training Group, were presented to the winners, who will keep the trophy for one year.

All those who took part also received participant’s medals.
