Carnoustie team tops Creative Spaces

The team from Carnoustie HS saw off the competition – from 21 other schools – to win the 13th Creative Spaces design challenge at D&A College.

Having drawn, costed and constructed a scale model of a building, based on a specific design brief, then offered a presentation on their design, Adam Fenton, Niall Mitchell, Grace Patterson, and Harry Dougan, took top spot.

The S2 pupils were among 22 teams from schools representing Perth and Kinross, Angus, Fife and Dundee education authorities.

Creative Spaces – the brainchild of Doug Binnie of Nicoll Russell studios – is designed to introduce S2 pupils to the design professions while raising participants’ awareness of their own capabilities using a hands-on, face-to-face techniques – no tablets or mobiles.

“The event helps pupils develop their design, mechanical and craft skills plus encourages their communications skills through the presentations they undertake, it also sends a positive message to their teachers,” said Doug.

The winning team scooped e £600 for their school and each received £60.
