Mental Health Training

Creating a better working environment for your team

1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem at any one time.

At Dundee & Angus College, we firmly believe that an individual's overall wellbeing is essential, and their mental health should be given the same level of importance as their physical health. As such, we strive to help businesses prioritise mental health initiatives in their workplace.

Did you know that on average, there is a positive return on investment of around £5 for every £1 invested in mental health interventions in the workplace? (Mental Health Foundation, Feb 2022). Looking after your employees wellbeing will pay dividends for your business in the long term and create a better environment for everyone to thrive.

Mental health training courses that we provide:

Introduction to Mental Health Awareness (Skills Boost/YPG)

Introduction to Mental Health Awareness begins with a look at what mental health is defined as and what it looks like. Other topics which will be covered include types of mental health problems, stress, self-help and signposting. The course will be delivered online using: Teams/Microsoft Forms/RISE package. There are no entry requirements and the assessment takes place online through self marking.

This course is currently free as part of our Skills Boost Activity but would normally cost £37.50. It is also available through the Young Person’s Guarantee.

Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace

This course provides employees with an understanding and awareness of mental health, to help reduce stigma and encourage others to talk about their mental health - something that is more important now than ever.

This training can be made bespoke to your business and delivered online if needed for remote workers.

Mental Health Awareness for Managers

The Mental Health Awareness course for Managers has a central theme around how to recognise and support people who are experiencing poor mental health. The training will encompass an overview of mental health, exploring this deeper from a management perspective, so that you can recognise signs and symptoms and know what to do should circumstances arise. It will develop skills in how to respond to an employee experiencing difficulties with their mental health as well as signposting to appropriate services.

The course will further provide helpful insights into the many ways you can create a positive mental health culture in your workplace and allow space for creative thinking to make some simple changes to ensure you are able to give the employees the support they require.
