VTCT SVQ in Barbering at SCQF Level 5
Would you like to have an exciting and rewarding career in Barbering? This course will provide knowledge and skills to be a junior barber and is based on the Barbering National Occupational Standards, recognised by the UK's leading barbering association and professional hairdressing body.

This course is delivered on campus with practical classes and project work, covered over 2-3 days per week (9-5 pm) plus potential evening class (4:30-8:00pm)
Level 1 VTCT qualification in Hairdressing and/or relevant industry experience. A minimum of two National 4/NPA/equivalent qualifications is recommended but not essential. For applicants for whom English is not their first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed. Enthusiasm for Barbering and a creative ability would be an advantage. A reference may be required.
Method of Assessment
Skills are assessed by direct observation on clients, family and friends. Assignments and exams will take place throughout the course to complete the knowledge required. Continuous research and self-study will also be required to complete this course successfully.
You will study consultation, implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices, cutting & clippering hair using barbering techniques, cutting facial hair, dry, style & finishing men's hair, assist with shaving services, with an element of male grooming including providing non-strip waxing to the nostrils, ears and eyebrow hair.
Progression onto SVQ in Barbering at SCQF Level 6 course and/or employment as a Junior Barber in a commercial salon or self-employment.
