Modern Apprenticeship in Hairdressing SVQ Level 2
Course Content
This work-based qualification allows individuals to gain an industry-recognised qualification and develop the skills required to become a professional in a hairdressing environment. Training is provided by the workplace/salon to prepare learners to have their hairdressing skills assessed within a salon environment. Completion of this qualification will enable applicants to work effectively as a junior hairdresser/stylist. Units include: Colour and Lighten Hair; Style and Finish Hair; Set and Dress Hair; Cut Hair Using Basic Techniques; Shampoo and Condition Hair and Scalp; Advise and Consulting with Clients; Health and Safety; Develop and Maintain Effectiveness at Work and Fulfil Salon Reception Duties.
Entry Requirements
Candidates must be working in a salon for a minimum of 2 months prior to the commencement of the programme. Candidates are required to undertake work-based learning/assessment throughout their qualification. For applicants for whom English is not their first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed.
Method of Assessment
Work-based assessment programme where skills are assessed by direct observation, online exams and open book assessments.
Future Prospects
Progression to SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Hairdressing or a college-based qualification i.e. VTCT level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing.
