VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing
Our VTCT Level 1 Hairdressing course teaches you the basic skills and knowledge required to progress onto Level 2 Hairdressing. To kick start a career in hairdressing, training at D&A Hair School will increase your confidence and employment prospects as we have an exceptional standard of facilities and experienced lecturers. By training with us, you will gain skills working on clients using professional products such as Wella/Sebastian.
This course is an ideal starting point for those with enthusiasm and motivation for hairdressing and who wish to follow this as a career.
This course is delivered on campus with practical classes and project work, covered over 2-3 days per week (9-5 pm) plus potential evening class (4:30-8:00pm)
Previous attainment of a Level 1 part-time qualification (Senior Phase SCQF 4) in Hairdressing, Barbering and or Beauty Therapy and/or relevant industry experience is desirable. Two National 4, NPA or equivalent qualifications are required. A satisfactory reference may be required. A good level of ICT competency and for applicants where English is not your first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed. You may be invited to a group information session.
Method of Assessment
Skills are assessed by direct observation on clients, family and friends. You will be required to do research and complete assignments and e-learning modules to gain the knowledge required to pass this course. You will have some online exams and study will be needed.
You will study an introduction to the industry, Health and Safety, Shampoo and Condition Hair, The Art of dressing hair, Styling and Plaiting hair, Basic Haircutting, Temporary Hair Colouring and Salon Reception skills. You will also explore social media and how to use this in the industry.
Further study onto a Level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering programme. Gaining employment within a salon as an assistant to develop your skills. Opportunity to study MA SVQ Level 2 within a salon to continue your studies.
