PDA Carpentry and Joinery

Course Content

This course is designed to increase craft-specific knowledge and skills in Carpentry and Joinery.

Units of study include windows, screens, high-class finishings, complex timber stair construction, specialist doors, and new sustainable building technologies.

Learners will spend one year (day release) at college including one two-week block at the end of the programme to complete the geometrical staircase. The remainder of the year will be spent gaining the necessary industrial experience in employment.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to be employed as apprentices or tradespersons within the trade and to have previously completed a Professional Development Award Level 6 and SVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery.

Method of Assessment

Continual assessment both in practical and theory. End tests will be conducted at the end of each unit. All units within the course must be achieved.

Future Prospects

Successful completion of the course will enhance career advancement and employability within the construction industry; these skills align with industry demands and increase the likelihood of securing contracts from Historic Environment Scotland. Successful learners can progress to HNC Built Environment.
