National Certificate in Zoo Animal Care, Behaviour and Welfare

Course Content

This unique course includes both theory and practical study and is delivered at the college (Kingsway Campus) and at Camperdown Wildlife Centre, Dundee. It includes a behaviour and welfare project (for which you will produce a documentary) and elements essential to the operation of modern zoos such as Nutrition, Health Monitoring, Enclosure Design, Health and Safety, Customer Care, Human-Animal Interactions, and guaranteed work experience element.

Entry Requirements

External applicants: Minimum of four National 5s at grade A-C (preference for Maths, English, Biology, and ICT) or equivalent e.g. Standard Grades or GCSEs.

Continuing students: Successful completion of a relevant National Certificate (e.g. Animal Care, Science) including Essential Skills at SCQF Level 5. Reference and evidence of excellent attendance will be required.

Method of Assessment

A project, open and closed book assessments and reports.

Future Prospects

Successful learners may wish to progress onto HNC Animal Care or use the qualification as a stepping-stone towards careers in animal/zoo keeping.
