Course Content

This course aims to develop knowledge of providing patient care. You will study professional standards and the psychological and sociological aspects of care. You will gain a good understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body and both neurological and physical disease processes.

A work placement will be undertaken.

Entry Requirements

Two Highers in academic subjects (English is preferable) at Grade C or above in relevant subject areas or equivalent or successful completion of Access to Nursing course. A qualification in biology, or evidence of study in Anatomy and Physiology, is advantageous. 

Selection will be made on qualifications, a satisfactory personal statement, written exercise and a reference.

As a placement is involved you will require a PVG check. It is also expected that you will have a good level of health, wellbeing, and resilience to cope with the demands of care provision.

All applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

Method of Assessment

A range of assignment methods are used including projects, reports, essay writing, exams and competencies that need to be met in practice.

Future Prospects

Completion may allow progression to 1st year undergraduate nursing degree programmes at university.

There may be an opportunity for 2nd year entry however this will require extra clinical hours in practice and further clinical competencies to be met.
