Access to Nursing (encompassing SWAP)
Course Content
This course offers an opportunity for adults returning to study after a period out of formal education. If you are an adult returner who does not meet the entry requirements for a place on an HNC or a university degree, successfully completing the SWAP Access to Nursing course can provide a route to gaining the required entry requirements.
Further information on SWAP programmes, including eligibility and possible progression routes, is available from the SWAP website at http://www.scottishwideraccess.org.
Entry Requirements
This course is open to adults who have been out of education for at least three years (or five years if you have Highers).
To learn more about eligibility criteria, visit the SWAP website at https://scottishwideraccess.org/east.
We will select candidates based on their satisfactory personal statements, qualifications, and written exercise. Even if applicants have few or no formal qualifications, we will consider their personal statements and written exercises to make a decision. We will review each applicant individually.
Method of Assessment
Assessment methods include class activities, written reports, essays and an exam.
Future Prospects
Completion of all units, a good attendance record and a positive reference may allow learners to progress to higher education such as HNC Healthcare Practice or HNC Social Services.
Please note for SWAP learners this course may lead to degree courses in adult, mental health and learning disability nursing or Children's Nursing at RGU.
This course will not lead to Midwifery.
