Course Content

This comprehensive course is ideal for current veterinary professionals and those aiming to enter the field. It equips you with essential skills and knowledge for a rewarding career in animal care.

The course covers key aspects of veterinary practice, including legislation, animal health and welfare, and patient care, providing a strong foundation for maintaining animal well-being and supporting medical and surgical procedures.

This work-based qualification requires you to complete 400 hours at college and 600 hours in a practice setting.

To be considered for this course, you must be employed or have secured a work placement of 600 hours (approximately 18 hours per week for 34 weeks) with a supervising practice. A letter of agreement from the practice is required before a course offer can be made.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of two National 5’s (or equivalent) in academic subjects at Grade C (ideally one science subject).

A letter of agreement from the veterinary practice where you will be completing your employment/work placement for the duration of the course. (This letter must be obtained before the course start date but can be secured after the interview).

Method of Assessment

A mixture of written assessments, practical observations and reports.
