Fast Track to Social Sciences
Course Content
This full-time course is designed for individuals looking to re-skill or enhance existing qualifications. This Level 4/5 course includes an NPA in Criminology at Level 5. Additional subjects include Modern Studies, Communications and other Social Science units. There will also be opportunities to explore volunteering and employment pathways. This course is suited to those wishing to develop a deeper understanding of the Social Sciences and Criminology to progress to a range of Social Sciences courses at an appropriate level for the learner. Progression will depend on successful completion of all units, performance, attendance, strong personal statement, reference and pre-existing qualifications.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will be required to work at Levels 4/5 and therefore this course carries a high academic workload. Students will be required to manage their time and deadlines effectively. A high level of attendance is required.
Entry qualifications will be considered on a case by case basis. A strong application form, personal statement and reference will be necessary.
Method of Assessment
Open and closed book assessments, presentations, reports, co-operative learning, portfolios, visual material and peer assessment.
Future Prospects
Can enable progression to further study in a range of subjects and at an appropriate level for the learner. This may include: Certificate in Social Sciences (Level 5), Advanced Certificate in Social Sciences (Level 6) or Access to Social Sciences (Level 6). Progression to HNC Social Sciences (Level 7) would require two relevant Highers or one Higher and an NPA Level 6 or PDA in a relevant subject and a positive reference from all lecturers.
Pre-existing qualifications will also be considered for progression.
