Pronunciation for English Language Teachers

Course Content

This practical course is perfect for you if you teach English to speakers of other languages and would like to learn more about how to teach pronunciation. The course combines phonology, the sounds of English plus features of connected speech and intonation, with pedagogy to give you teaching ideas to take away and use or adapt for your own teaching situations. It will give you a bank of ideas to help improve both the intelligibility of students’ language and their listening ability. There will also be the opportunity to learn about and evaluate different ways of assessing pronunciation and there may be an opportunity to observe pronunciation classes in our department. Tuesdays 5.30-8 pm.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have an interest in learning how to teach pronunciation to speakers of English as a Foreign Language but no previous experience is required. Non-native English speakers require a level of English at Upper-Intermediate/B2 or above. This course is ideal for newly qualified and experienced teachers who want to learn more about teaching pronunciation.
