Motor Vehicle Engineering Level 1

Course Content

This engaging and motivating Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) is generally aimed at learners 16-19 years old, but open to all age groups who have a keen interest to learn about the maintenance of various types of transport, mainly focussing on light vehicles (cars and vans), and the job roles that are available within the sector.


This qualification consists of a combination of units from Health and Safety practices, Foundation Skills, Personal Social Development (PSD), and Mechanical covering various types of vehicles including light vehicles, plus additional unit groups. This general route for Transport Maintenance allows learners to have the flexibility to develop their knowledge and skills across a variety of specialist areas to prepare them for further studies and potentially enter into a job role they desire.

Entry Requirements

Preferably a progressing student from Entry Level Motor Vehicle course or have relevant experiences in the Automotive industry at SCQF level 4 or above.

Group assessments will be held for all applications inclusive of progressing students.

Note: Progressing students will be subject to the minimum required criteria from their current course.

Method of Assessment

Online/written and practical assessments using e-portfolio.

Future Prospects

There are opportunities to attend work experience placement in local garages.

Potential leading on to a Modern Apprenticeship in Light Vehicle Maintenance and repair and further potential employment opportunities.
