Course Content

Construction Technology covers a broad range of construction-related disciplines including site surveying, construction, energy, thermal performance, water, acoustics, model making and human behaviour.

This course equips you with the knowledge and skills required for the specification, design and management of engineering services required in the built environment with an emphasis on sustainable solutions. Designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed by industry to design buildings of the future that not only provide sustainable and low energy-built environments that have a positive influence on the health and wellbeing of the people who use them, buildings that are also resilient and adaptable to future climate change. 

Entry Requirements

Progressing Students: Completion of relevant Level 5 courses - must include Maths units or equivalent and a satisfactory reference from the course team. 


New Applicants: Three National 5 subjects (or equivalent) at Grade C or above which should include Maths, Science or a Technology-based subject. Industrial experience and other relevant qualifications will be considered.


Method of Assessment

Project-based learning and continuous assessment.

Future Prospects

This award will provide an opportunity for progression to higher level ‘technician’ courses. For example, HNC Civil Engineering/HNC Architectural Technology.


Learners who successfully complete this award may seek employment in the Built Environment sector, perhaps as a trainee technician working towards a Modern Apprenticeship or other relevant professional accreditation.
