Advanced Certificate in Accounting

Course Content

This course is an ideal starting point for learners with no accounting or limited accounting knowledge. The course will provide learners with a good foundation in areas of study such as: financial accounting; management accounting; salaries and wages; information technology; communication; economics; employability skills. Units of study are subject to change. This course provides an entry point to learners, which can then be used to embark on further study.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of four National 5 passes at Grade C or above (English would be preferable) or completion of the Certificate in Business: Administration & IT or equivalent ESOL qualification. 


All applicants are subject to a selection process and levelling exercise which must be achieved at a minimum of level 5. Mature applicants who do not meet the academic qualifications for entry will be considered on the basis of relevant work experience.

Method of Assessment

A combination of SQA and college based units assessed throughout the year by way of continuous assessment, together with a year end examination.

Future Prospects

Successful completion, good attendance plus positive attitude, behaviour and commitment to the course may allow progression to the HNC or AAT Diploma in Accounting. In certain cases, a reference may be required.
