Progressing to university from D&A College
Dundee and Angus College has a wide range of articulation agreements with universities across Scotland.
Articulation is when a student on an HNC or HND programme can progress into either year two (from HNC) or year three (from HND) of a degree at university.
Our articulation agreements mean that students who have completed the relevant HNC/D can progress onto university without having to repeat a level of study.
Additional Funded Places (AFP) scheme at D&A
The additional funded places (AFP) scheme is funded by the Scottish Funding Council, with the aim of widening access and increasing articulation into university, as well as supporting key sectors of the economy.
Students on the AFP scheme complete their first one or two years of study at D&A College completing a relevant HNC or HND, before going on to complete a degree with a designated university.
Students on the AFP scheme are guaranteed a place on the corresponding degree course on successful completion of their HNC/D.
AFP scheme at D&A
If you want to become an AFP student with Abertay, Napier or Robert Gordon universities, talk to your lecturer about it during recruitment or as you start your course – they can share information about how to progress as appropriate.
There are a limited number of places on each pathway, so the sooner you register your interest the better.
For the University of Dundee programme, you apply through UCAS.
Yes, you can still come to college – your college offer still stands.
There will still be opportunities for you to progress on to a degree if you successfully complete your HNC/D – see information on articulation for the various pathways available.
As well as being on a pathway to a degree, there is a range of other benefits to being an AFP student.
- A university student ID card
- Full access to the relevant university library, including borrowing rights
- A university IT account
- Access to the university social and sporting facilities
- Invitations to attend various events for AFP students
- Associate Students can obtain a student bank account
Students will also meet regularly with the relevant university staff, who will help with any questions, organise and lead workshops on research and study skills and support transition from college to university. The workshops are organised at a time that fits with students’ college timetable.
SWAP courses
If you’ve always wanted to study for a degree but haven’t found a way to get the qualifications you need, we can help you move forward.
We offer a range of full-time courses covering different subjects, vocations and career pathways that are designed to support your progression to higher-level study with us or at university.
Many of these courses incorporate SWAP. The Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) is a partnership between colleges and universities to support access to higher education for adults.
SWAP courses are specifically designed for adults who are returning to education after a gap, and who have the motivation and ability to go on to study at a higher-level.
