Evolving Prisons Goes Live at Our Gardyne Campus
Our Gardyne Lecture Theatre was transformed into a buzzing live podcast studio for a fascinating session hosted by Kaigan Carrie, PhD researcher and creator of the Evolving Prisons podcast.
Kaigan interviewed a current and a former prison officer, exploring the complexities of the prison officer role, the challenging and often traumatic situations they face, and their work's impact on their personal lives. The discussion also touched on public attitudes toward prison officers and prisoners, and the different experiences of working in men's and women's facilities, including Perth Prison and the Bella Centre for Women.
Lindsay Conchar, Social Science Lecturer and Founder of Scots Law Talks brought this unique event to our students, providing them with an invaluable, first-hand look into the realities of the penal system and a chance to engage in meaningful dialogue about the world of criminal justice.
Our Social Science and Police Studies students were actively engaged during the podcast and contributed to the live event with thought-provoking questions for the host and guests.
Thank you to Kaigan for bringing this inspiring and insightful experience to D&A.
