HND Textiles (Year 2)
Course Content
This hands-on course is aimed at creative individuals who are interested in textile design for the fashion and interiors industries. Learners will develop creative thinking, making and design skills through research, sketchbook and practical work. Studies will include learning about pattern cutting and construction to produce a fashion garment, screen-printing, digital imaging, stitched textiles, fashion and interior trends, developmental and figure drawing. Individuals will learn about job roles within industry and produce a strong portfolio for university or professional progression. The course also offers live projects, links to local companies, fashion show and exhibition opportunities.
Entry Requirements
1 relevant Higher/equivalent qualifications, preferred English and Art/Design or successful completion of a relevant SCQF level 6 course (and minimum 85% attendance). At interview: a portfolio of work is required such as drawings/designs/photography. Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on presentation of a strong portfolio. To progress into 2nd year of this course learners must successfully complete all 1st year units and satisfactory attendance, timekeeping and commitment.
Method of Assessment
Continuous internal/external assessment with the focus on portfolio production and submission.
Future Prospects
Learners may apply to study at degree level on university courses such as textiles, fashion, interiors, costume design and fine art. Learners may also go directly in to creative industry employment in a variety of areas.
