HNC Sports Coaching and Development
Course Content
It covers multiple disciplines within the industry and facilitates the academic investigation of these topics at SCQF level 7.
Areas covered include Sports Coaching, Sports Development, and a range of Sports Science topics. Learners will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work as professionals within the sports industry in various contexts.
Learners have the opportunity to visit and participate in a variety of sporting events and festivals and gain additional sports and fitness qualifications.
The course provides learners with the industry-recognised PDA qualification certified by SportScotland/CIMSPA (Level 2 Coaching Framework).
Entry Requirements
Two appropriate Highers such as English, PE or a Science at C, equivalent academic achievement (Level 6 industry relevant PDAs/NPAs) or successful progression from a relevant full-time sport course. Applications are also welcome from those holding alternative qualifications and/or relevant industry experience.
Interview process: 1-1 interview, practical assessment, an extended written task and a reference may be required. PVG Scheme Membership is a mandatory requirement for placement.
Method of Assessment
Variety of assessments: practical performance, written assignments, presentations, portfolio, exams, placement & coaching delivery.
Future Prospects
Learners may progress directly into the HND in Sports Coaching and Development upon successful completion of 15 credits alongside suitable course performance. Successful learners may also gain employment within the sport and fitness industry.
