IMI - Motor Vehicle Modern Apprenticeship

Course Content

Topics covered include automotive health and safety; skills in materials; fabrication; tools and measuring; devices used in the automotive environment; routine vehicle maintenance; engines and related systems; vehicle transmission systems; vehicle electrical systems; chassis and associated systems; automotive mechanical; lubrication and cooling system units and components; Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Systems knowledge and understanding; automotive underpinning knowledge and skills; hands-on workshop sessions. Essential skills including Numeracy, Communication, Working with Others, Problem Solving and Information Technology are also mandatory for an MA framework and will be studied at SCQF Level 5. Learners are required to attend college one day per week.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be employed within the motor vehicle industry and may be subject to funding eligibility. 

All applicants will be interviewed with their employer to ensure the correct criteria is met.


Method of Assessment

Online multi-choice tests, practical assignments and a portfolio of evidence. Assessors will carry out work-based assessments in the workplace.

Further opportunities within the Motor Vehicle industry such as EV/Hybrid courses and MOT Tester Award.
