Karate Champion Cerys Hawes Wins Big at WUKF South Africa Championships

Cerys Hawes, an HNC Sports Coaching and Development student at Dundee & Angus College, wins two silver medals and a championship title in Gqberha, South Africa.

Representing Scotland, Cerys, delivered an outstanding performance at the WUKF (World Union of Karate Federations) South Africa National Championships and Africa Open. The event is the largest of its kind in South Africa, featuring top karate athletes from around the world.

Cerys' dedication and skill stood out in the competitive environment and as part of a select group of seven athletes from Kanzen Karate, she earned two silver medals and clinched the championship title in the 21-35 Years Kumite Sparring Category.

A special highlight of the trip was when she met the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, who was attending the event. Cerys met the President whilst celebrating her birthday as well as visiting partner karate clubs in Cape Town.

Cerys’ success brings pride to her coaches, teammates, and the Dundee & Angus College community.
