Modern Apprenticeship in Hairdressing SVQ Level 3

Course Content

This work-based qualification builds on learners’ existing knowledge, skills and understanding in hairdressing. It develops technical abilities and prepares them for employment as senior stylists. The course structure offers flexibility to advance artistic skills and chosen career paths. Units include: Client Consultation; Plan and Prepare for Services; Cutting Techniques for Re‑Style; Creatively Colouring and Lightening; Colour Correction; Creative Styling and Dressing; Develop and Enhance Creative Hairdressing Skills; Develop, Enhance and Evaluate Hairdressing Skills; Plan, Implement and Evaluate Promotional Activities.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of SVQ Level 2 Hairdressing, VTCT Level 2 in Hairdressing or equivalent. Applicants with prior hairdressing experience will be considered for this course. Applicants must be employed in a salon for a minimum of 3 months prior to the commencement of the qualification. Learners are required to undertake work-based learning/assessment throughout their qualification. For applicants for whom English is not their first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed.

Method of Assessment

Work-based assessment programme where skills are assessed by direct observation, online exams and open book assessments.

Future Prospects

Progression opportunities within the Hairdressing Industry. Alternatively, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills by studying at HNC level.
