VTCT SVQ in Barbering at SCQF Level 5
Course Content
Are you interested in a rewarding and exciting career in barbering? This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to become a junior barber. It is designed based on the Barbering National Occupational Standards, recognised by the UK's leading barbering association and professional hairdressing body.
Training at D&A Barber School will boost confidence and enhance employment prospects. We offer exceptional facilities and experienced instructors. By training with us, you will develop skills while working on clients using professional products, including American Crew and Sebastian.
This course is delivered on campus with practical classes and project work, covered over 2-3 days per week.
Entry Requirements
Level 1 VTCT qualification in Hairdressing and/or relevant industry experience. A minimum of two National 4/NPA/equivalent qualifications is recommended but not essential. For applicants for whom English is not their first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed. Enthusiasm for Barbering and a creative ability would be an advantage. A reference may be required.
Method of Assessment
Skills will be assessed through direct observation on clients, family members, and friends. Throughout the course, assignments and exams will ensure you acquire the necessary knowledge. Additionally, ongoing research and self-study will be required for successful completion.
You will learn about consultation techniques and how to implement and maintain safe, hygienic, and effective working practices. The course will cover hair cutting and clipping using barbering techniques, styling and finishing men's hair and cutting facial hair. You will also learn to assist with shaving services and perform shampooing, conditioning, and treating hair and scalp.
The course includes an element of male grooming, which includes non-strip waxing for the nostrils, ears, and eyebrow hair.
Future Prospects
Progression onto SVQ in Barbering at SCQF Level 6 course and/or employment as a Junior Barber in a commercial salon or self-employment.
