Higher Chemistry
Course Content
This course is designed for those interested in developing their knowledge of chemistry. Through topics such as chemical reactions, organic chemistry, and chemical industry, you’ll build a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. The course emphasises problem-solving, analytical thinking, and laboratory techniques, all of which are valuable skills for university study and a wide range of careers. Higher Chemistry is particularly relevant for students considering paths in chemical science, engineering, medicine, or life science. The course is structured to offer clear progression from National 5 Chemistry and prepares students for HNC studies or degree qualifications.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a National 5 (B grade) or Intermediate 2 (B grade) chemistry qualification or equivalent. Applicants will be invited for an interview and may be required to sit a short diagnostic test.
Method of Assessment
Learners will be assessed on course work, which will be submitted to SQA. Learners will also be assessed through the completion of an external exam.
Future Prospects
Higher Chemistry is a useful science higher which, along with other appropriate level 6 qualifications, may allow progression to HNC Applied Science or university.
