HND Sports Coaching and Development (Year 2)
Course Content
This course builds on the knowledge and understanding gained throughout the HNC where multiple disciplines within the industry are investigated in an academic manner at SCQF Level 8.
Areas covered include Sports Coaching, Sports Development, and a range of Sports Science topics. Learners will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to work as professionals within the sports industry in various contexts.
Learners will visit and participate in a variety of sporting events and festivals and gain additional sports and fitness qualifications.
The course provides learners with the industry-recognised PDA qualification certified by SportScotland/CIMSPA (Level 3 Coaching Framework).
Entry Requirements
HNC in Sports Coaching and Development (15 credits) with suitable performance on that course. Applicants who hold a previous HNC Coaching qualification will be considered. A satisfactory reference may be required. PVG Scheme Membership is a mandatory requirement for the placement.
Method of Assessment
Variety of on-going assessments: practical performance, written assignments, presentations, portfolio, exams, placement & coaching delivery.
Future Prospects
Successful completion could lead to 3rd year sports degree programmes at university (e.g. Abertay, RGU, UHI & OU). Career opportunities with private, local authority and national organisations within the industry.
