HND Contemporary Art Practice (Year 1)
Course Content
This course is suited to learners seeking to enhance their creative skillset, develop their visual awareness and build a substantial portfolio of high-quality work. Aspiring artists who enter this programme will be exposed to fantastic art and design facilities, including expert tuition from a range of professional artists. Throughout this course, learners will have the opportunity to acquire, explore and hone their artistic skills. These will include: life drawing and painting; contextual studies; observational drawing; mixed media; printmaking; digital art forms; photography; conceptual art and 3D practice.
Entry Requirements
One relevant Higher/equivalent qualification, preferably in Art/Design at grade C or above or successful completion of a relevant SCQF level 6 course (and minimum 85% attendance). At the interview, a portfolio of work, such as drawings/designs/photography, is required. Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on presentation of a strong portfolio.
To progress into 2nd year of this course, learners must successfully complete all 1st year units with satisfactory attendance, timekeeping and commitment.
Method of Assessment
Continuous internal/external assessment with the focus on portfolio production and submission.
Future Prospects
On completion of this course, learners may apply to study at degree level or go directly into the creative industries such as design, media, production roles, arts education, curation and freelance artist/designer.
