HND Computer Arts and Design (Year 2)
Course Content
Applicants select from either Digital Art (graphic design & illustration) or Animation. Both routes allow learners to develop their creative thinking and design skills through exciting projects. Emphasis is placed on developing your creativity, independent thinking, and organisation skills. You will develop an understanding of research, sketchbook working, idea generation and concept development, drawing skills, research methods, and contextual studies exploring the work of relevant artists/designers. The Animation route focuses on 2D/3D animation, games and VR art. The Digital Art route includes graphic design and illustration, motion design, typography and corporate identity.
Entry Requirements
1 relevant Higher or equivalent qualification, preferably in English and Art/Design, or successful completion of a relevant SCQF level 6 course (with a minimum attendance of 85%). At the interview, a portfolio of work is required, such as drawings, designs and photography. Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on presentation of a strong portfolio.
Method of Assessment
Continuous internal/external assessment with the focus on portfolio production and submission.
Future Prospects
Successful learners may progress on to study at leading Scottish Art School/university degree programmes or may progress on to work in Creative Industries roles, gaming, film & TV, publishing, freelance design etc.
