HNC Physical Activity and Health

Course Content

This course is suitable for a wide range of learners, including school leavers, adult returners to education, individuals in employment who wish to enhance their career prospects and those wishing to start their own business. Units build underpinning knowledge and understanding of aspects required to practically gym instruct and work with groups. These aspects include Health & Safety Management, Exercise Science, Principles & Programming, Health Screening, Nutrition, Psychology and Health Promotion and Behavioural Change.

There is an opportunity to gain additional fitness qualifications accredited by Active IQ and Les Mills.

Entry Requirements

Two appropriate Highers such as English, PE or a Science at C, equivalent academic achievement (Level 6 industry relevant PDAs/NPAs) or successful progression from a relevant full-time sport course. Applications are also welcome from those holding alternative qualifications and/or relevant industry experience.

Interview process: 1-1 interview, practical assessment, an extended written task and a reference may be required.

PVG Scheme Membership is a mandatory requirement for placement.

Method of Assessment

Variety of on-going assessments: practical performance, written assignments, presentations, portfolio, exams, placement & fitness session delivery..

Future Prospects

The HNC leads directly to HND Physical Activity and Health upon successfully completing 15 credits and suitable performance on the course. Successful learners may gain employment within the Fitness, Health & Exercise industry.

After successfully completing the course, learners may register with CIMSPA as Gym Instructors, Health Navigators, and Group Exercise Instructors.
