HNC Childhood Practice

Course Content

This course offers opportunities for you to advance your skills, knowledge and experience to develop a career within Childhood Practice. You will study a range of topics relevant to working with children and young people.

Practical and work based experiences are also an important element of the course. You can either use your employment or alternatively a placement organised by the College (these must be within the Early Years Sector).


An acceptable PVG record check is required.

Entry Requirements

Two Highers at C grade or above, preferably English, plus experience of working with children or successful completion of a relevant SCQF Level 6 qualification, for example, NC Childhood Practice or Completion of NPA and SVQ units of Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services Children and Young People.

Selection is based on written information within the application, qualifications, experience, reference and a written exercise.

Method of Assessment

Integrated assessments in a variety of formats including reports, graded unit, work experience portfolio and a workplace observation. Your practice is assessed whilst on placement.

Future Prospects

Possible progression to PDA Childhood Practice (SCQF Level 8) or employment at practitioner level. This programme meets the registration requirements for SSSC for Early Years Practitioner.
