HNC Animal Care

Course Content

This course allows learners to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of issues around animal care including: Anatomy, Nutrition, Welfare, Animal Husbandry, Health and Disease, Behaviour and First Aid as well as Ecology. Learners will also develop relevant skills in Academic Research, Communications and Statistics. The course features a large ongoing practical skills development unit.

Entry Requirements

External applicants: a minimum of two Highers (or equivalent) in academic subjects at Grade C (ideally one science subject). Applicants with an NC from another college will be considered with a satisfactory reference (including attendance) from their previous college. Applicants are required to have a minimum of SCQF Level 5 Communications, Numeracy and ICT or equivalent. References are required for all applicants.

Method of Assessment

This course has a mixture of written assessments, practical assessments, reports and a Graded Unit examination.

Future Prospects

HND Animal Care.

Second year entry to life science degrees at the University of Aberdeen. 

Degrees at other institutions, e.g. animal science & vet nursing (check entry requirements). 

Career prospects: SSPCA and other animal rescue/welfare organisations, vet practices & zoos.
