The Open University (OU) are collaborating with the college to offer OU Choice: a blended learning opportunity to prepare for higher level study, training, or employment. This programme offers SQA units alongside OU modules, with tutor support from the college and the OU, both online and in class.
OU Choice offers a perfect introduction to university level study in a supported college environment. The course aims to develop academic study and research skills, and offers SQA units including: Combined English (Communication NC and Literature 1); ICT; Academic Study Skills; Numeracy.
These core subjects complement the OU entrance subject module of your choice: Arts and Language: An introduction to Art History, English Literature, English Language studies, history, modern languages, creative writing and religious studies. People, Work and Society: Explore a wide range of subject areas, including children and young people, health, law, management, psychology and social sciences. Science, Technology and Maths: Develop your knowledge of science, engineering and design, environment, maths and computing and IT.
OU Choice offers an ideal opportunity if you have not been in education for a while, are considering higher level study, or just want extra time to decide what skills and subject area you are interested in developing.
Level 5 qualifications, particularly in English and Maths; or Communication and Numeracy is essential. As this is a blended learning opportunity, candidates will need to have a working knowledge of ICT. Some experience of level 6 study and F3GB12 Communication is desirable. All candidates will be invited to attend a diagnostic test to assess suitability for the course.
Successful completion of this course prepares candidates for higher level study at HN level, university or employment.
The course is portfolio-based and assessed through ongoing coursework. Coursework is a blend of SQA assessed units at level 6, and an Open University access module. Coursework is graded by both D&A College and Open University lecturers.

A range of SQA units at level 6 that support Access level study including: Academic Study Skills, Combined English (Communication NC and Literature 1), ICT, Statistics and Numeracy.
