Where Dragons Meet Employability Skills at Dundee and Angus College
More than 80 delegates from schools, colleges and universities across Scotland gathered at Dundee and Angus College for the sold-out Dungeons & Dragons Meta Skills Summit - a bold event exploring how tabletop role-playing can unlock the skills needed for the future workforce.
Partners from College Development Network, Robertson Group, DC Thomson, Tabletop Scotland, LifeArc and local games cafes joined educators, industry leaders and students - with attendees travelling from as far as Inverness, London and Hamburg.
At the heart of the summit was Dungeons & Dragons - guided by D&A College Learner and Community Engagement Officer and resident Dungeon Master Jonathan - demonstrating how immersive storytelling develops creativity, communication, collaboration, adaptability and problem-solving.
Neurodivergent learners, creatives, construction managers, student leaders and even vets took part in dynamic discussions and a live gameplay session, seeing firsthand how “play” builds confidence, resilience and leadership.
With a growing community of more than 100 student players at the College, the event showcased how inclusive tabletop role-playing games are helping combat loneliness and build belonging, while equipping learners with the meta-skills employers consistently call for.
Jonathan Liddell, event organiser, said:
“Empowering staff, students and employers across Scotland with the wonder of D&D - using tools that truly inspire and unite teams - has been a highlight of my career. I’m incredibly proud of our students and the community we’re building together.”
The Dungeons & Dragons Meta Skills Summit is part of Dundee and Angus College’s commitment to innovative, learner-centred education - proving that sometimes the most serious skills are developed through play.
