Transport Minister learns about MY D&A travel app

Last week Jenny Gilruth, Minister for Transport, visited Dundee and Angus College to hear how students and staff have benefitted from the My D&A travel app which launched in September 2021.

The journey planning app has helped staff and students to plan sustainable journeys to and from college and also highlights the free Under 22 free bus journeys option.  The app has been developed by Tactran and Fuse Mobility who were in attendance to speak to the Minister about the app.

The Minister spent time at the college speaking to Amy Monks, the Students Association President, on how students have benefitted from the app and how it has made a difference in how many get to college.

Jenny Gilruth, said: “I am delighted to see how Dundee and Angus College and Tactran have been working together to help students travel sustainably. By providing more comprehensive travel information, people feel empowered to choose public transport or active travel, which helps reduce carbon emissions and helps meet our aspirations for a healthier and more sustainable Scotland.”

The Minister was also able to try out an electric vehicle simulator as she heard from College staff on how Dundee and Angus College are upskilling vehicle technicians so that they have the required skills to attend to electric vehicles.

Dundee and Angus College Principal Simon Hewitt said: “Over the last number of years we have been committed to embedding sustainability into all aspects of our day-to-day running and have set out our path to net zero. The My D&A Travel App allows our students and staff to see all of the potential travel options available to them and the most sustainable way they can get to college. We were delighted to have the opportunity to share our electric vehicle training courses with the Transport Minister, which are equipping vehicle technicians with the knowledge and skills to work safely on electric vehicles.”

My D&A Travel app has been developed with Scottish Government funding through its Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Investment Fund, which aims to provide people with better travel information so that they can decide the best way to undertake their journeys.

The app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play by searching for “My D&A Travel”.
