Nailing It! Our Students Shine at CITB SkillBuild Scottish Qualifier
This week Dundee and Angus College’s construction team hosted the Scottish Qualifier for CITB SkillBuild across our Kingsway and Arbroath campuses.
SkillBuild, delivered by CITB, has run for over 40 years and is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices. Each level of the competition requires competitors to demonstrate their technical skills, whilst also being judged on their time management, character and commitment.
Our students showcased their skills in carpentry, joinery, roof slating and tiling, and painting and decorating, competing against the best from other local colleges by completing a task relevant to their trade in a 6-hour time frame. In a battle for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place they also competed for the opportunity to qualify for the Milton Keynes National final held later this year.
Our champions this year were placed in the following categories:
Carpentry:
2nd - David Lawrie
3rd - Adam Lockhart
Joinery:
1st - Edward Storier
2nd - Bryn Thompson
Roof slating & tiling:
3rd - Jake Baxter
Painting & decorating:
2nd - Caitlin Vannet
3rd - Kieran Murray
This competition is a great way for students to grow their confidence and sharpen their skills and the level of craftsmanship showcased this year was truly inspiring!
