EuroSkills Success for D&A-Trained Competitor Shelby
We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news from the international skills stage.
EuroSkills and WorldSkills UK competitor Shelby - coached at Dundee and Angus College by Curriculum and Quality Leader for Construction, Mike Swan - has been awarded a Medallion for Excellence in Painting and Decorating at EuroSkills Herning 2025.
WorldSkills is an independent charity and global partnership that brings together employers, educators and governments to champion skills excellence. The EuroSkills and WorldSkills competitions cover a wide range of disciplines and skills, from construction, to digital, professional cookery and more. Many of these are delivered right here in the UK’s further education colleges.
With over 80 countries involved, and around 64 different skill sets, it’s a worldwide movement dedicated to helping young people achieve success through competition-based training, assessment and benchmarking.
Shelby trained on campus under the expert guidance of Mike who has been a driving force in WorldSkills for nearly two decades. Mike currently serves as WorldSkills UK Training Manager for Painting and Decorating, as well as Chief Expert for EuroSkills Herning 2025 and WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.
Shelby’s journey - from local competitions to achieving international recognition - is an inspiring example of what’s possible through dedication, skill and exceptional mentorship. This is another outstanding achievement for both Shelby and Mike.
