Christine Calder - Green Gown Award Winner
We are thrilled to announce that Christine Calder, Academic Development Lead, has won the prestigious Sustainability Champion Staff Award at this year’s Green Gown awards.
Christine’s unwavering commitment to embedding sustainability throughout our College and beyond distinguished her among 16 finalists in her category to earn her this well deserved recognition. Nominated by our Head of Estates, Billy Grace, Christine was celebrated at the 20th anniversary of the Green Gown Awards, held last night at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, with the judges selecting winners from more than 133 finalists across 84 institutions.
Christine said: “Winning the award for Staff Sustainability Champion is an immense privilege and I am humbled to have been considered alongside the other finalists. This accolade is only possible because of the amazing people in D&A College who I collaborate with on a regular basis, all with the vision of making our world, college and education system a little bit greener for everybody and everything.”
Christine’s achievements include launching the innovative Hedgehog Friendly Campus project, advancing sustainable travel policies, and working with the Academic Development Team to embed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into teaching qualifications. Her work has empowered both students and staff to embrace sustainable practices to create a lasting change within and beyond D&A.
This award builds on D&A’s proud history with the Green Gown Awards, including previous wins for Carbon Reduction in 2015 and Campus Food and Drink in 2019, alongside finalists’ placements in 2014, 2021, and 2023.
Congratulations to Christine for her incredible work and to everyone at the College who supports our sustainability mission as we continue our journey towards net zero.
