Student Story: Lewis' Business Journey
Hi, I’m Lewis Simms, an 18-year-old Business & Administration student here at Dundee & Angus College. After exploring various different areas of interest, I discovered that administration is the path that I enjoy the most.
From Teaching to New Goals
When I was younger, I wanted to become a teacher. Over time, however, my goals changed and now I am focused on pursuing a career in accountancy or law.
My time at D&A is helping me gain the tools I need to work towards my new career goal. I am also currently an intern at Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, where I am getting the chance to put my learning into practice. It has been a great experience and everyone at the Chamber has been incredibly kind and supportive.
Adjusting to College Life
Starting at D&A was a big change for me. I went from knowing everyone at school to almost no one at College. It was the first time I felt like a small fish in a big pond. It was challenging at first, but I gradually found my place by getting involved and making connections with my classmates. This has been a great journey for me and it has given me the opportunity to grow both in the classroom and beyond.
Achievements and Growth
One of my proudest achievements so far has been becoming a Class Representative. This role has boosted my confidence, helped me contribute more to my class and take on more responsibility. I have also gained a greater sense of belonging at D&A, being part of something bigger and seeing the many different pathways people like me take to get to their dream careers.
Beyond College
When I am not at College, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’m also an avid accordion player, I take lessons every week and I love it.
Advice for Future Students
My advice to new students or people thinking about coming to D&A is, do it! Dundee and Angus College is such a great college to be a student at. All the staff are friendly and will welcome you with a warm smile and kindness.
Looking Ahead
My next step is to continue my studies in Glasgow, where I hope to study either accountancy or legal services. The qualifications I’m earning at D&A are setting me up for the next steps in my career, I feel more confident going into this next chapter.
