SVQ Level 3 Amenity Horticulture
Course Content
This course runs for up to 18 months, part-time, day release for one day a week. This gives students time to complete two additional competence-based certificates which may include: Pa1 and Pa6 spraying certificates, tractor driving, mini digger operation, loading shovel, wood-chipper, fork-lift, IOSH Working Safely or emergency first aid. This may incur additional costs if a student is not on our Modern Apprentice programme.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be working full-time in horticulture and ideally have achieved SVQ Level 2 or equivalent. The course would also be ideal for applicants with a lot of practical experience who may not have any formal qualifications. Applicants must be able to work at SCQF level 6 or above.
Method of Assessment
The theory element of the course is delivered mainly at college. A mixture of workplace assessment and day release classes covers the practical element. You will also be required to complete an online portfolio.
Future Prospects
A Modern Apprenticeship (MA) is the standard expected of a time-served horticulturist, although SVQ Level 4 or HNC/D may offer further progression.
