Course Content
Overview:
This nationally recognised qualification provides learners with a broad range of practical skills and knowledge across multiple construction trades. It is designed for those seeking a versatile foundation for employment in the construction industry or progression to specialist training. The course combines hands-on experience with core employability and academic skills.
What You’ll Learn:
Practical Multi-Trade Skills:
- Brickwork: Basic walling and blockwork
- Carpentry & Joinery: Bench joinery and constructional carpentry skills
- Painting & Decorating: Preparing and painting surfaces, decorative finishes
- Roofing: Introduction to roof structures and coverings
- Retrofit: Principles of energy efficiency and sustainable building practices
Health and Safety: Safe working practices in construction
Employability Skills: Timekeeping, teamwork, and communication
Core Skills Development: Numeracy, ICT, and communication
All units within the course must be achieved to gain certification.
Entry Requirements
Successful completion of Gateway to Trade Skills (Construction) at SCQF Level 4 course or two passes at National 5 (or equivalent) one NAT 5 to be in English or Maths or relevant industry experience.
All applicants will require a satisfactory interview and includes a diagnostic test with a score of 40% or above required.
Method of Assessment
Practical based assessments and theoretical knowledge-based assessments both open and closed book at SCQF level 5.
Future Prospects
On successful completion, learners can progress to:
- Specialist trade qualifications (Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating, Roofing)
- Construction-related apprenticeships
- Employment in multi-skilled roles within the construction industry
- Progression to SCQF Level 6 construction courses
