This course develops valuable language skills through the study of non-fiction and literature. You will learn how to analyse and evaluate texts effectively, preparing you for course assessments and future academic or career aspirations.
Weekly evening classes take place at our Gardyne Campus from 6–9 pm, currently planned for Tuesdays (subject to change), with in‑person tutor support, opportunities to work with peers, and a structured learning environment. 2–3 hours of independent study are required each week.
Entry Requirements
A pass at National 5 English at grade A or B (or equivalent) is expected. Applicants with a grade C may still be considered following a successful diagnostic test. All applicants are required to attend an on-campus information session.
Method of Assessment
Learners must undertake a prelim (usually in February) and must achieve a satisfactory mark to sit the final exam.
Future Prospects
Higher English is a prerequisite for most teaching courses and PGDE programmes. It is highly regarded by employers and higher education providers and offers excellent opportunities for progression in education, training, and the workplace.
