HND Computing: Software Development (Year 1)

Course Content

Every app you open, every website you explore, every system you rely on exists because of software developers. From electric vehicles to medical technology, robotics, and satellites, code drives our world. On our two-year HND Software Development course, you'll start with "Hello World" and progress to building full applications, web platforms, and databases. You'll learn to design for users, teams, and businesses and gain the skills to shape our digital world.

Your units will include

  • Computer Programming
  • Database Design and Management
  • Web Design and Development
  • Computer Systems and Troubleshooting


Entry Requirements

Four relevant National 5 or equivalent at level A/B plus 1 Higher in a STEM subject (C or above).

or

Internal progression from Certificate in Computing level 6 passing all credits with a positive reference

or

Mature applicants with relevant experience are assessed individually.


Completion of a strong personal statement explaining your interest in the course. You may be invited for an interview to make sure this is the right course for you. All applicants may also be asked to provide a reference.

Method of Assessment

You will be on campus for 16 hours per week over 3 days.


Each subject has continuous assessment, which may include multiple choice questions, written reports, presentations, development projects, and solving problems with computer programs


There is also a group project which is assessed through hands-on experience in designing and developing a computer product.

Year one has a graded unit exam.
